Hello from Room 2. 

 

Topic, Term 2

 

In topic this term we have been learning about Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Junior comes from the Soloman Islands so we were really lucky to have his dad come and talk to us about what life there is like. We selected other islands to do country profiles on and then in pairs we did research posters on an Island of our choice.

The Island I enjoyed learning about the most was Samoa.

The most interesting fact I found out about Samoa was that if your youngest child is a boy you treat them like a girl. You would grow their hair long and make them girls clothes. They are even allowed to use the ladies bathroom. 

Annabelle

The island I enjoyed learning about the most was Fiji. An interesting fact I found out is that rugby is the most popular sport.

Nate

The island I enjoyed learning about the most was the Soloman Islands. I found out that they have no power in the villages and there wasn’t any power where Junior lived.

Madison

The island I enjoyed learning about the most was Rarotonga. The most interesting fact I found out about Rarotonga was that the island was formed by a volcano. Another fact was that 6000 people live in Rarotonga.

Alex

The Island which I enjoyed learning about the most was Samoa. The most interesting fact I found out about Samoa was that they do ‘tapa’ art, in class we did some ‘tapa’ art.

The island I enjoyed learning about the most was Tahiti.

The most interesting fact I found out about Tahiti was that if your looking for love you wear a flower in you right ear and if you are already taken you put it in your left ear.

This term we have been...

 

We are learning to write narrative stories and then turning them into plays.  Room 2 are also learning to play chess and checkers on Thursday afternoons.  On Friday we are learning to tell the time, we are learning both digital and analogue.  By Annabelle

I travelled all the way from Oman to New Zealand for my summer holidays.  I'm staying with friends that go to Wakanui school.  I will stay at Wakanui school for a few weeks and I like it.  The four square is really different than the one in Oman.  By Finlay

We learned how to design a mouse cage and it helped us improve on drawing.  Room 2 have been making stain glass windows with Mrs Mackie.  We used black paint in a bottle and then we would make little lines all over the page.  By William

On Saturday I played football for the Eastern Tigers, I have scored 3 goals so far.  We won 3 to us and 1 to Methven, they are the best players but we bet them and I got the Player of the Day certificate.  At school we did PE with Cathy, we played rugby. football and icehockey but I like football best because it is fun.  By Junior

At play time you can have something to eat and have a 15 minute play.  I usually play fort tag.  To be able to play fort tag you have to get a ball and try to tag people.  We try not to have too many 5 to 6 year olds because we don't want to fall on top of them.  By Alex

We did stained windows on the 23rd of June.  We were very careful because of the black bottle paint.  We put on the black bottle paint first and had to get the dye ready.  We each got a paint brush and dipped it in the dye and put it in different parts of the black bottle paint.  By Maddy

Room 2 has been learning how to use a graphic organiser for narrative writing.  Mrs McCormick taught the class you need to have orientation, characters, complication and a solution.  After we have seen Mrs McCormick and she has checked it, we will be able to start our narrative.  Then when it is done we will proof read it and check the spelling mistakes.  By Maddison.

For maths we are learning multiplication and division.  I learnt that I can work out 5 x 500 = 2500 and an easy way to work out the problems.   By Dana

We have been playing netball and hockey.  Netball is a very funny sport.  It is like basketball.  Hockey is a sport that I play it is a cool sport you should try it.  On Friday Cathy comes to teach us heaps of PE.  I like basketball, football, rugby, indoor hockey and netball.  The best one I like is indoor hockey with Cathy.  By Nate 

On Saturday I play hockey for Wakanui hockey club with my friends.  We have some very good skills and players.  So far we have won all our games.  The hard team we vs was Allenton.  The score was 2 to us and 1 to Allenton.  Hockey is a very fun sport because you get heaps of energy.  By Jed
