This year sees me doing a little bit of a different job. As well as being principal at Wakanui, I am also the lead principal for the Hakatere Community of Learning. This means I will be away from school
on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, working in one or more of the schools in our community. My main focus is on helping schools improve achievement for all children, but in particular, those who don’t do as well as we might want. One of the first jobs for me to do is to work out, with schools, why some don’t do as well as others and what we can do about that;
big questions to get to the bottom of! When I am away, Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Ferguson will each have a day as acting principal. They will each look after matters concerning curriculum, student achievement and pastoral care. If you want to talk about property, finance, policy or health and safety, I’m the person to see. Mrs Watson has responsibility for years 0-3 and Mrs. Ferguson years 4-8.
