Maths - Working to Scale
In maths we have being busy doing measurement. Today we were looking at scale and trying to plan a school ground in 2D. There were a few interesting situations were the playground ended up being only a meter wide but after we went out and measured our own we had a better understanding!
As the countdown to speech day gets faster the practise is getting more and more important! We have been working on using eye contact, voice clarity and voice projection as well as our stance during our practises.
Marshmellow Maths Measurement Challenge
To help create relevance with our learning we have had to solve the problem of Mrs Wells and the mass marshmellows. First we were only given a small container and we had to work out the capacity of this using water and a measuring jug. Then we had to work out what to times it by to get up to 2L. Then we filled the smaller container with marshmellows, counted the number and then calculated the 2L volume.
Mondrian Art & Maths
In term 2 we looked at the Artist Mondrian. We discussed the colour choices he used and the structure of his work. In collaborative groups we worked on creating our own Mondrian art using Lego. This was a challenge and took us a while. In the following weeks we then copied our art work to scale into our maths books on the squares page and then calculated the area and perimeter.
As part of our learning in maths with measurement and literacy we looked at the Anzac Biscuit and what was and the part it had to play in the wars. Fortunately out measurements were all ok and the biscuits tasted yummy!
Thanks for the free footballs and rugby balls TRS. We love using them
