Sometimes the school needs to close for an emergency or to deal with health and safety issues.
This can happen at short notice.
Given our rural position, a lack of power for more than three hours is likely to cause issues with toileting and water supply.
Please make yourself familiar with the following:
What is deemed an emergency?
· Any situation where the safety of those present is at risk
· Any situation where emergency personnel (Fire, police, civil defence, health officials) advise of an emergency
· Any situation where staff are unable to manage a safe learning environment
What will happen?
In the event of an emergency, safety of all staff and students will be the priority. Emergency services will be contacted and their advice followed.
If evacuation is necessary, it will be to the safest position, as close to the school as possible.
Someone form the staff or Board of Trustees will contact parents/caregivers with information and instructions.
Parents should not come to the school unless specifically asked to do so as this may put more people in danger.
In the event of students needing to go home and parents /caregivers not being contacted, students will be supervised at school until contact is made.
Parents/caregivers must ensure the school has current emergency contact details in order that we my contact you quickly in the event of an emergency. Please update these contacts regularly.
The school will take a proactive approach to emergency management – we will aim to make sound decisions before the situation reaches a crisis.
In the event of a closure before school begins, a notice will be posted on the local radio station and on the web site.
In all situations, we urge parents to use common sense.
