Established in 1876, Wakanui School has a long and proud history of catering for local Year 1 to 8 students. Situated 10km east of Ashburton, and inclusive of an enrolment zone, we enjoy a rural environment whilst maintaining urban connections.
Our small class sizes ensure that we can cater for individual learning needs. Students in Year 4 and up utilise learning technologies to support their learning through a 1:1 ratio and BYOD programme. Our senior Year 6, 7 and 8 students have many opportunities to develop leadership skills both within and beyond the school.
At Wakanui School, we believe in supporting our students to develop skills and knowledge in the key learning areas in conjunction with strong links to our community, rural environment, and modern technology. Our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Excellence underpin all that we do.
Our school is very whānau oriented. We encourage active involvement from those who are part of the wider Wakanui family – parents, friends, grandparents, neighbours and community members. This gives Wakanui a strong foundation and a hard-working and generous support network.

Hi all,
Welcome to Week 11, the final week of a long term. This week, we have swapped our CRT day, so Mrs Livingstone will be in Kauri on Tuesday instead of Thursday.
Thank you for coming to our Celebration of Learning afternoon on Friday. It was great to see the children proudly sharing their learning with you. The children who shared with their buddies from Kawakawa also really enjoyed the experience.
This week, we will be doing Term 2 revision across all subjects. We are still learning about Matariki, and our Matariki celebration will be held on Thursday night from 5.30–7.00pm. Please see the whole-school Loop for more details.
Thank you for your ongoing support this term. It has been a busy but positive one. I hope you all have a relaxing two-week break.
Kind regards,
Karen
Kia ora Kawakawa whanau,
we have made it to the last week of the term!!! I have my CRT release on Thursday this week rather than on Tuesday. The class will still have art on Monday afternoon. Mrs Livingstone has asked for the class to bring along a clear jar for art on Monday. Please do not panic if you do not have a clear jar, as Ange Chudleigh has quite a lot of jars so Libby will bring these along on Monday for anyone who didn't have one.
We have the school wide Matariki Celebrations on Thursday night, this goes from 5.30 - 7.00pm. There was information about this looped out to everyone last week. Our classroom will be open during this time for you to come and have a look at the Matariki work that we have done.
We will be doing some whole class reading this week, so there won't be instructional books coming home to be read. I will share some of the Matariki stories that we have read on see-saw in case you want to reread or look at them again at home. In maths both years groups are learning about time. Year 3 will be learning about how to write and write quarter past, half past, quarter to and o'clock on a digital and analogue clock. Year 4 will be learning about how to convert between digital and analogue time and order events according to their duration. In writing we will be doing some poetry related to Matariki. I won't be sending any spelling words home this week.
We have had a great term. It has been wonderful to see the growth and progress of the class over the term and I am starting to see that they are ready for a rest and recharge. Whatever you are up to over the holiday break please have a safe and enjoyable time.
Nga mihi nui,
Julia
Kia ora Koutou,
Next Friday -July 3rd, your child's Mid Year progress report will be sent to you via Edge (our Student Management System). This will happen after school, and if you have children in multiple classes they may arrive at slightly different times.
Hopefully this all goes smoothly! If you do not receive your child's report by Monday July 6th please email me and I will look into it.
Our reporting does look a bit different so please read the attached information. I will also send home a paper copy of this next week.

Please see attached information about the Incredible Years Parenting Course being offered in Mid Canterbury.
I understand it is a significant commitment; however, for anyone who is interested—especially those with younger children 3- 8 years old —it comes highly recommended. Gayle is currently attending the teacher version in Christchurch and has found it to be highly informative and valuable.
If you have any questions or would like to know more, please feel free to email Gayle, and she will do her best to answer them.
Good afternoon all,
Just a reminder, the class will each need to bring in an empty tin (baked beans, fruit etc) for art with Mrs Livingstone tomorrow.
Thank you
